Which Glyconutrient Product Should You Use? In the world of health, there is no more controversial topic than that of Glyconutrients. Glycoproteins were first mentioned in 1950 and early research stemmed from finding out exactly why the Aloe Vera plant had such a fantastic healing effect on burns and cuts. IT is important for your future health that you red and understand this information. Historical Background The use of Aloe Vera as a healing substance at least goes back to biblical times. Alexander the Great used them to heal his soldiers. It is well established that this plant has great healing properties. In 1952, tests were done on Aloe Gel at Los Alamos, USA, and scientists found that the gel a one week was topically inactive. This was interesting as many products were made using Aloe Vera around the late 1970s and many were found to be lacking any active ingredient. This is much the same as it is today with a vast majority of Natural Supplements. Manufacturers quote properties of the raw materials. Often their product has been severely altered, or the raw ingredient has been neutralized by poor manufacturing processes. The end result is that you are purchasing products not on claims for its effectiveness, but claims for the raw ingredients. This does not necessarily flow through and makes it very difficult to select products. Why Did It Take So Long To Discover This? With the interest in Aloe and its healing properties, the race was on to discover exactly what worked in this plant. In 1983, Carrington Laboratories isolated a polysaccharide and named it “acemannin”. It was discovered that it was a carbohydrate that formed the active ingredient. Just like no one realized that washing your hands before touching a patient would stop the spread of disease before Joseph Lister cam along, (possibly the greatest ever advance in medicine!), there had been very little if any research into the therapeutic benefits of carbohydrates up till this point. Science Discovers Glyconutrients In 1990, there was a very important article written in Biotechnology magazine where for the first time carbohydrates were identified as essential for immune function. Science now knew that carbohydrates were involved in every cell interaction, making them on of the most important parts of body chemistry. From this time, glycobiology blossomed, now seen as one of the hottest fields of medical research. This was particularly so at Oxford University in England, which started the journal of glycobioolgy. Medical Textbook Identifies Necessary Glyconutients The next milestone occurred in 1996 in the form of the 24th edition of Harpers Biochemistry, a textbook used in many medical schools around the world. In 2005, the 26th edition maintains that there are eight necessary carbohydrates (glyconutrients) found in the chains of glycoproteins and there fore involved in cell interaction. Dr John Axford, of London University, asserts that the absence or presence of these on cell receptors is indicative of many disease conditions. As glcyonutrients are found in every cell and are the means of communication, this may just be the greatest scientific discovery in many years. Discovering Scientist Protects His Discovery Through Patents Later in 1996, the scientist who discovered the original “acemannan” filed patents for composition and use of products containing multiple carbohydrates. That means that other companies are unable to legally manufacture any product containing all eight essential glyconutrients as to date there is no known single plant containing sufficient quantities of all eight. This product has been enhanced in its formulation as more scientific research is completed, but essentially supplies a combination of the eight necessary glyconutrients. Current Glyconutrient Products. Understand that science says that we require eight essential glyconutrients. Some of these are supplied in a different form, than that used in the body, because of the way our digestive system works. The eight are; Galactose, Glucose, Mannose, N-Acetylneuraminic acid, Fucose, N-Acetylgalactosamine, N-Acetylglucosamine, and Xylose. These are the ones identified in Harpers Biochemistry. There is now a raging debate between supplement manufacturers as to who has the best glyconutrient product. After all, adding the eight essential glyconturients to any other substance means it gets to the cells faster, making it more effective. There is big money in this, and everyone knows it. Griffith University in Australia has established an institute of Glycomics and makes some outrageous claims of being able to cure such diseases as Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Viral Diseases and even some Cancers, once they harness glyconutrient technology. Having done a search for products on the market, I can report that here are a few. Glycomannin. This product claimed to have all eight essential glyconutrients. It was withdrawn from the market after a law suit was filed by the patent holder. Nutratose. This product claims a superior glyconutrient complex. They suggest, contrary to Harpers, that supplying actual glyconutrients is better than the derivatives. This conflicts with the scientific evidence. Could it be an attempt to circumvent the patent? The patent holder recently filed a law suit for breach of patent against this company. MPS-GOLD. Dr Whittaker promotes his glyconutrient formula and goes to great lengths to discredit the patent holders. He concludes that you only require two of the eight essential glyconutrients (the ones in MPS-GOLD)! Could it be that this is because to include more would violate the patent and have his product withdrawn form the market? You can be assured that other glyconutrient products will come on the market in future, and all will promise a better product at a cheaper price! From my point of view, you have to question anyone willing to risk a patent violation, even though there are massive profits to be made. After all, when you use someone else's research and development, you save millions! The Evidence Is Clear If you search the internet today, you will find abundant evidence for the effectiveness of glyconutrients. There are stories published with health results on a wide range of disease conditions. The shear volume of evidence establishes beyond doubt the effectiveness of glyconutrients in enhancing human immune function and hence vitality and health. Glyconutrients Are Important For Your Health If you wish to have the best possible chance at health, I think you might agree with me that your first step to combating modern living should be to add a glyconutrient complex to your dietary regime. That’s what I have done for the last eight years and I feel great as a result! Where Do You Get Glyconutrients?
